Dr Anjana Niyagama is a compassionate and dedicated Consultant Endocrinologist and General Medicine Physician with over 15 years of clinical experience across New Zealandand Australia.
Dr Niyagama graduated from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2011 and relocated to New Zealand to pursue further physician training. Following General Medicine training across several tertiary hospitals in Wellington New Zealand, she completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2024. She subsequently undertook dual advanced training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Auckland, qualifying as a Consultant Endocrinologist. She recently completed post-fellowship training in Obstetric Medicine at Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Brisbane, further expanding her expertise to include Obstetric Medicine and the care of women with complex medical conditions during pregnancy.
Dr Niyagama is a current member of the Endocrine Society of Australia, the Australian Diabetes Society, the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society and the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand.
Fluent in Sinhala, Dr Niyagama’s ability to communicate effectively extends to patients from Sri Lankan non-English-speaking backgrounds, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive healthcare experience.
Dr Niyagama is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care with a strong emphasis on shared decision-making, clear communication, and respect for individual patient values. She is well regarded for her warm and approachable nature, excellent communication skills, and compassionate approach.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her young daughter and values maintaining a healthy work-life balance with family and friends.
